Abstract
Epithelioid angiomyolipoma is a recently recognized variant of angiomyolipoma, which is characterized by the presence of polygonal cells with densely eosinophilic cytoplasm and varying degrees of nuclear atypia. We report a case of renal epithelioid angiomyolipoma misdiagnosed as a renal cell carcinoma that occurred in a 46-year-old woman. Pathologically, the tumor was composed of diffuse sheets of epithelioid cells, which had pleomorphic and hyperchromatic nuclei with densely eosinophilic cytoplasm and were positive in HMB-45 and smooth muscle actin. There was no expression of cytokeratin, epithelial membrane antigen, vimentin, myoglobin, S-100 protein, estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor. After radical nephrectomy, the patient showed no evidence of recurrence or metastasis until now.
